Chicago one-time house cleaning

One-time cleaning service in Chicago with no schedule attached

A one-time cleaning service in Chicago is for the week before a party, the night before a buyer walks through, or a stretch at work that pushed every weekend off the calendar. The date, the rooms and what the visit will cover are agreed on the call, with no recurring schedule after it.

A one-time cleaning service prepared this dining room for guests, a lit chandelier over a floral centerpiece on the table.

When a single cleaning makes sense

A guest bathroom cleaned on a one-time cleaning service, with a wiped vanity and folded white towels on the counter.

Many one-time jobs come down to a date on the calendar. Family lands on Friday, a party fills the living room on Saturday, or a buyer tours the home on Sunday morning, and the place has to look right by then with nothing after it on a schedule. The call sorts the visit around that one date, the rooms that matter for it, and how far behind the home has drifted.

1. What the visit is for

The first question is why you called. A party, overnight guests, a showing, a landlord walkthrough, a baby due home, a week of work that ran long. Each one changes what gets the most time. A party cares about the living room, the guest bath, the counters where food lands and the floor near the trash can. Overnight guests push the guest room up the list. A showing cares about every surface a buyer notices in the first thirty seconds.

2. Which rooms matter most for that

Once we know the reason, we pick the rooms in order. A one-time visit for a weekend of guests might cover the full apartment but linger on the kitchen and the guest bath. A visit before a showing might go through the whole place lightly and spend the extra time on the bathrooms, the floors and the kitchen hood. If some rooms matter more than others, we agree on which rooms are in and which are closed off.

3. How long since the last thorough clean

The next question decides whether a standard visit is enough or a deep clean fits better. A home that has been kept up every week needs a different visit than one running on light wipe-downs for six months. We ask when the oven last got opened, when the baseboards last got wiped, and whether anyone has been under the bathroom sink since spring.

4. Pets and allergies

If a dog or a cat lives in the home, the floors, the furniture and the baseboards look different. If someone in the house has a sensitivity to a product, tell us on the call and we work around it with the products you choose. Tell us as well if a pet needs a closed door or a quiet corner while we work, since a one-time visit is often the first time the pet has met us.

5. Getting into the building

How we get in matters when a home may be in a walk-up, a mid-rise or a building with a front desk. On the call we go over the stairs, the front and back doors, the garage, the elevator, the doorman or buzzer, and whether a neighbor is holding a key. If you want us to come when you are not home, we go over that on the call too.

6. What you want left exactly as it is

A one-time visit is the easiest one to get this part wrong on, because we have never been in the home before. The call is the time to name what stays exactly where it is: papers on the kitchen table, the mail on the counter, the folded laundry on the bed, the toys on the rug, the record player in the living room. Nothing personal is sorted or moved into drawers.

Reason Rooms that matter most Standard or deep
Family staying the weekend Guest room, guest bath, kitchen, living room Standard, with extra time on the guest bath
A party on Saturday Kitchen, living room, entry, guest bath Standard
A showing or an open house Every room a buyer sees, with the kitchen and bath lingered on Deep when the home has been quiet for months
A new baby coming home Nursery, bedrooms, kitchen, bath Standard, with fragrance set on the call
A long work stretch Whole home, kitchen and bath first Deep when a thorough visit has not happened in months
A landlord walkthrough Whole unit, inside appliances, bath, floors A move-out clean in an empty unit if the furniture is already gone

A one-time visit also fits a stretch when the regular cleaner is on vacation, or a home that has never had a cleaner at all and wants a trial run before committing to a schedule.

When one-time cleaning service in Chicago fits, and when another service fits better

A one-time visit is enough when the home needs one cleaning and nothing after it. Other services pick up where it leaves off, and the call is where we sort out which service you actually want.

When one visit is the right call

  • The reason is a date on the calendar, not a pattern
  • The place is in fair shape for its age
  • Nothing after the day needs the home cleaned on a schedule
  • A standard visit will cover most of the work

When another service fits better

  • The home has been coasting for months and the buildup has gone past a standard pass. A deep clean covers the baseboards, cabinet fronts, grout and the tops of fixtures that a standard visit does not.
  • You already know the home needs steady help. A regular schedule fits when the need keeps coming back, so a weekly or every-other-week visit is worth a look.
  • The place is empty and the keys go back on Friday. Move-out cleaning covers inside the cabinets and appliances once the rooms are clear.
  • You want the kitchen, the bath, the dusting and the floors held to a reliable pattern on a schedule you set. A standard maid service visit covers that work.

If the call starts as a one-time visit and lands on a different service, we say so.

Specific weekends and standing rhythms call for different kinds of visit.

A single visit, or a schedule instead

What a one-time clean fits well, and when a recurring rhythm works better.

A single visit fits

  • Guests, a party or family in from out of town.
  • A showing or an open house on a set date.
  • Catching up after a hard stretch.
  • Trying a cleaner before a schedule starts.

A schedule fits

  • The same reset you want every week or two.
  • Pets, kids or heavy cooking that bring work back fast.
  • A rhythm that keeps the home from drifting.

What the visit covers

A one-time standard visit covers the rooms you asked for: dusting from the top surfaces down with an extendable duster from the floor, the kitchen counters, sink, stovetop and the outside of appliances, the bathrooms (tub or shower, toilet, vanity and mirror), the bedrooms and living areas, and the floors last. Trash goes out. Beds are made when you ask. Nothing personal is sorted into drawers.

Supplies get sorted up front. If you want your own products used, say so and the cleaner works from them. If a surface in the home needs something stronger than what you keep in the cabinet, we check before using it.

What a one-time visit does not do: carpet shampooing, upholstery extraction, outside windows above the ground floor, duct cleaning, mold work beyond small surface spots on tile and grout, hauling, painting or repairs. If the home needs any of those, we point you at the right trade.

If a one-time visit fits what the home needs, tell us the rooms and what the visit is for when you call, and the rest gets set on that call.

The job in four steps

  1. The call. You dial (312) 436-0710 with the details: when the visit is for, the rooms, the number of bathrooms, how we get in, pets, products and what to leave alone. If the home needs a deep clean rather than a standard one, that gets sorted on the call. See getting ready for the visit for what helps the first time.
  2. The plan. What the visit will cover is agreed before the day, including which rooms get the most time and anything we flagged. If you add a room or drop one, say so before the day.
  3. The price and the go-ahead. The plan ends with the price before any cleaning starts, with what moves it in how a single visit is priced. Nothing happens until you say yes.
  4. The cleaning and a last look. We clean. If you are home, we walk through the rooms with you at the end. If you are out, the wrap-up is agreed in advance.

One-time cleaning in Chicago: your questions

Can I get just one cleaning with no schedule attached?

Yes. A one-time visit is the whole job, with no recurring schedule afterward. You can call again later for another one-time visit, or move to a schedule when the time is right.

Standard or deep for a one-time visit?

A deep clean fits when the home has not had a thorough visit in months, when the kitchen or bath carries real buildup, or when the reason for the visit is a buyer or a landlord. A standard visit fits for a home kept up on a regular rhythm. From a note on when the home was last cleaned, we recommend one or the other. The guide on standard or deep has more.

Can you only do the kitchen and bath?

Yes. A one-time visit can cover any subset of the home you ask for. One option is the kitchen, both bathrooms and the floors, with the bedrooms closed off. The subset gets set from what you tell us.

What moves the price of a single visit?

Rooms, bathrooms, how long since the last thorough clean, pets, parking and whether the visit is standard or deep. The price is set from the details you leave, so nothing is guessed from a short exchange.

Do I need to be home?

It depends on the home. Some visits are set so you are there at the start and leave before the cleaning. Some are set so a key, a code or a doorman handoff lets us in with no one home. The handoff gets agreed in advance.

Can a one-time clean turn into a regular schedule later?

Yes. A one-time visit is a reasonable trial run. If the home looked the way you wanted after it, we can talk about a weekly, every-other-week or monthly visit; a schedule is a separate decision you make later.
